Dubai Earthquake!

Two days ago, peacefully sitting at my desk on the 13th floor of City Tower II, I had the interesting experience of riding out an earthquake. Around 2:30 PM, the buidling started to slightly sway and the blinds and plants definitely reflected this. People in my office started to ask, 'Is the building moving? Do you guys feel that?' My instinct was to run for the window and look for some explosion or act of terrorism. I mean, I am living in the Middle East and especially after the recents acts in Jordan, you can never be too safe.

We exited the buidling and patiently waited for a good twenty minutes until it was confirmed that there had been in earthquake of the south of Iran and its effects were being felt in Dubai. Luckily there were only minor casualities in Iran, but if I could even begin to attempt explaining my thoughts at that moment, unbelievable!

Welcome Alex!

So right before I left for Turkey, I got a new flat mate: Alex from the UK. (Alas, our German flatmate is moving on, quite an experience in itself) Alex is working for one of the media companies out here covering various issues/topics, and to initiate him in right, we had a little dinner party, cut some bows, and signed some paper (Contracts, Americana Style ). Hopefully we'll have a proper house warming party for the Kingdom of Golden Sands 8!

Oh Good Old College Parties

So for a retro active post and because I love the pictures: My Hungarian friend decided to have a party at her flat and asked my advice for a proper party theme. Remembering my days back in college and the lovely fraternity parties I attended, I offered a generous list of ideas, and the one she found most inspiring was the 'Golf Pros and Tennis Hoes' party. Polos and plastic tennis sets were bought and here are the pictures to show the results. It was a fun, crazy party, everyone had a blast, and it was interesting to see the various cultural interpretations of the theme.

Oh sharing American culture!
